City Manager Gary La Venia
The city manager is appointed by and is responsible to the City of Fruitland Park City Commission for the administration of all city affairs.
On September 30, 1974, the city commission (board of directors) elected a city-manager plan of government where the manager (chief executive officer) serves as the chief administrative officer for the city and is responsible for all city affairs by charter. The city was recognized by the International City-County Manager Association on March 10, 1983, as the manager-council form of government.
The city manager attends all city commission meetings. The manager submits the annual budget together with the five-year capital program and certifies revenues that are available for appropriations to the commission for approval.
In addition to the city commission, the city manager receives recommendations from the Planning and Zoning Board on matters affecting the physical development of the city; supervises all refuse accumulated and collected, and serves as purchasing agent for the city. The city manager carries out multiple tasks to see that the business of the city is proceeding towards the best interests of the citizens of Fruitland Park.
